What is 5G?
5G is the wireless 5th generation technology standard for cellular networks, which cellular phone companies began started deploying worldwide in 2019. It is successor to the 4G networks which provide connectivity to most current cellphones.
So whatever smartphone you have, it still supports the 4G LTE network and for the 5G you have to look for the 5G devices.
5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices. With 5G we can think about smart home and other connected services where internet-enabled appliances and devices can be automatically controlled remotely.
4G vs 5G
In India Jio is a big player in the telecommunication and we can expect the 5G services from Jio and it would be launched in late 2021. As compared to the 4G, Jio 5G speed and connectivity would be far better than the other 2G, 3G and 4G networks.
5G is likely to reach speeds that are 20 times faster than 4G LTE. 4G LTE has a peak speed of 1Gb per second; 5G could theoretically achieve speed up to 20Gb per second.
Well, 5G is not about the speed, it is beyond that! 5G network will offer a lot and it will open the new connectivity dimensions.
Why 5G?
If we see the current scenario then the 4G network is very crowded. All these devices, competing for bandwidth are slowing the network down. So we need something better than this 4G network and 5G network is the best solution to speed up the connectivity.
5G may have the capacity to handle up to a million devices per square kilometer. You will have less concern with dropped connections or how many devices you have connected to the network; it’s that much more reliable and won’t face any connectivity issue!
Jio 5G Speed
Jio 5G speed would be 20X than 4G speed. In India Jio 4G offers maximum real-world download speeds up to around 100Mbps. So when Jio launch 5G then we can expect 5G speed around 10Gbps which would be quite good and best in terms of connectivity.
If we get this amount of speed in upcoming 2 or 3 years then you will see a new 5G India. Here’s the speed breakdown of different networks. Have a look at 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G speeds below.
Jio 5G Trial
The trial of 5G network will be done in the main cities of India. This may took around 1 to 1.5 year as Jio is working on the 5G setup. For this, the company will setup the 5G antennas and purchase the bandwidth, which cover a large of area city or town without any disturbance.
Initial trials would be happened in Mumbai, Pune, and Bangalore. Like the 4G trials, the initial 3 months might be free and later users have to pay amount to continue the 5G services. May be Jio will Jio 5G phone with some initial data benefits or streaming offers!
Jio 5G Plans
As we know, Jio 5G would offers downloading speed up to 20Gbp which is 20x more than Jio 4G. So what could be the 5G prices and how much we have to pay to use the 5G network in India.
Well the current 4G plans are quite affordable and nearly we can do over daily jobs easily. But in 2 or 3 years that speed wouldn’t work because then we would prefer a fast network to connect multiple devices simultaneously like phone, laptop, TV streaming, Cam feed etc.
So to full fill this thing we will prefer and look for high internet speed options and it will be done by the 5G network. In India, Jio, Bsnl and Airtel will be the ISPs who will make this 5G connectivity possible. But out of them Jio would provide more affordable 5G plans. Its basic plan would be around INR 499. Here are the 5G prices…
INR 599 with 1GB daily Data
INR 799 with 2GB daily Data
INR 999 with 2.5GB daily Data
And in addition to that we would see some bundle data around 50GB/month, 100GB/Month and 200GB/month which would cost around INR 899, INR 1499, and INR 1999 respectively.
Note: this is just idea, nothing yet announced officially yet by Jio
